What is Tapeworms in Cats?

Tapeworms are flat worms which have a head, neck and then its different segments. The head is the main part of the worm and is called the sucker or groovers which ideally attach its head to the living organism it lives on, and in your case it’s your cat. These tapeworms in cats usually get attached to the cats’ intestines, which can become a serious problem later on.
Once infected these tapeworms in cats will reproduce and have a lot of eggs which can cause another series of worms. The neck part of the worm develops within time, and the back portion is discarded off when the worm reaches maturity. This discarded portion of the worm has large group of eggs which then group together known as packets and then spread around your cat’s anus.
These tapeworms keep on spreading in your cat’s body and make it their home, and you might notice your cat to become weaker and weaker. Some worms die, and if you can see them they resemble cucumber seeds. If they are alive you can notice them moving around. This is the time when the owner has to get alarmed and then take the cat to the vet to immediately treat it.
These tapeworms have no digestive system and absorb all the nutrients from your cat’s body and this is why you might see your cat growing thin by the day and weaker too. Apart from cats these worms may also exist in fleas, lice, pigs, goats and other domestic animals.
Roundworms, effective parasites, hookworms and many other species of worms get into your cat especially in kittens. The symptoms which the cat shows are:
- Loss of appetite
- Becoming thinner
- Lethargic
- Vomiting
Just like humans these animals can also get infected easily and this is why regular checkups are a must for animals. Disease control medications are also available from the vet and common adult health treatment and care is also given to the animals.
